You talk, Mochi types, in every app on your Mac. The beta is open: install it, use it every day and tell us what's wrong.
For Macs with Apple silicon or an Intel processor, running macOS 13 Ventura or later.
Before you start
- To check your Mac: Apple menu, then “About This Mac”. The “Chip” line should say Apple M1 or later, and the macOS line version 14 or later.
- Download the file here, straight onto the Mac that will use it. If it goes through WhatsApp, Drive or email, it arrives broken and macOS says the app is damaged. To share VoiceMochi, send the link to this page instead.
- You need a Mochi account. You can create one now, or from the app the first time you open it.
Install VoiceMochi
Steps 4 to 6 only happen the first time. macOS blocks an app that doesn't come from the App Store until you give it the go-ahead.

Open the downloaded file.
It's in your Downloads folder, in the Dock at the bottom of the screen. Double-click the VoiceMochi file ending in .dmg and a VoiceMochi window opens.

Drag VoiceMochi into Applications.
In that window, hold the click on the VoiceMochi icon, drag it onto the Applications folder right next to it, then let go. The app is installed.

Eject the VoiceMochi disk.
In the Finder's left column, click the small arrow next to VoiceMochi. You don't need the .dmg file anymore: you can move it to the Trash.

Open VoiceMochi, then click Done.
Open it from your Applications folder, not from the disk window. macOS tells you Apple could not verify the app. That's expected during the beta. Don't click “Move to Trash”.

Unblock the app in System Settings.
Apple menu, then System Settings, then Privacy & Security. Scroll all the way down and click “Open Anyway”. Your Mac asks for your password or fingerprint, the same one you use to unlock it.

Click Open Anyway one more time.
You only do this once. After that, VoiceMochi opens like any other app, updates included.

Sign in with your Mochi account.
No account yet? Click “Create an account” in the app, or create one here. The same account works for every Mochi app.

Allow the microphone and Accessibility.
Your Mac asks for the microphone: click Allow. Then, in Accessibility, turn on the switch next to VoiceMochi. Without these two, Mochi can't hear you or type for you.

You're set. Hold fn, speak, then let go.
Your text appears wherever your cursor is: a message, an email, a note. The very first dictation takes a few extra seconds.
Updates
VoiceMochi checks once a day for a new version and offers it to you. To check right away, open the app (it's in French for now) and go to Réglages, then Mises à jour, then click “Rechercher une mise à jour”.
Something wrong?
- “The app is damaged”: the file got broken on the way. Delete it and download it again from this page.
- VoiceMochi asks you to move it to Applications: drag it into that folder (step 2), then open it again from there.
- No “Open Anyway” button in System Settings: open the app once first (step 4), then go back.

System requirements
- A Mac with Apple silicon or an Intel processor
- macOS 13 (Ventura) or later
- A microphone: the Mac's built-in one is fine
- An internet connection, for transcription
- A Mochi account
- Microphone and Accessibility permissions, which you grant yourself in System Settings
- Screen & System Audio Recording permission, only for meeting notes (macOS 14.2 or later)
- The app is in French for now. You can dictate in French or English.
